I have to admit that I have never been totally dedicated when it comes to skincare. Sometimes I really don’t have time to go through all the steps and some other times, frankly speaking, I just can’t be bothered.
However, lately I have been trying to be a little bit more committed and I am noticing great improvements on my skin, especially in terms of glow. So I thought it would be nice to share my steps and products with you.
First of all, let me set the scene here. I have a normal skin type, with the classic and annoying T-zone which tends to get a bit more oily than the rest of the face. I am pretty lucky, as I don’t have major concerns with spots, apart from some random ones I get due to stress or to some drastic changes in my habits. But – overall- I can definitely say that me and my skin well, we are getting on pretty well at the moment.
So here are all the steps I (usually) do before going to bed. In the morning – for reasons of time – my routine gets way quicker!
CLEANSE. Cleaning up your face from all the make-up and the dirt of the day is the most important step. I usually wash my face with mid-to-hot tap water and then I use the miracolous Lush‘s LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL (MAISENZA for my Italian friends). It is a gentle cleanser, which gives you a bit of esfoliation as well, thanks to the maize flour and polenta exstracts, though leaving your skin soft and smooth.
TONE UP. Toner is such an underrated and forgotten product. Although not a necessary step, it may really help with specific skin issues one is facing (acne, oily or dehydrated skin, …), it helps your skin with balancing the pH levels and it refines the cleansing process. I tried quite a few toners in the past, but I always go back to the classic Manetti&Roberts’ ACQUA ALLE ROSE. Refreshing and nourishing, it leaves my skin softer and more elastic.
NOURISH. Now is the time to give your skin that extra boost of nutrition and here comes the magic of the serum. About a month ago I discovered the A’kin‘s Pure Radiance ROSEHIP OIL(*) and I completely fell in love with it. It is a certified organic product that aims to give a glowing and radiant looking skin thanks to its antioxidant and multivitaminic fruit extracts. I use to apply this product over the toner, when my face is still damp and the morning after I always wake up with my complexion being absolutely regenerated. Serums have the property to penetrate the skin and give it a deep and natural nourishment.
AND MOISTURISE. Last but not least. Face cream. And here you really have to go out and look for what’s best for your skin tipe. I am all about light weight products that yet are emollient and can really hold the moisture in. A new one in the family is the Clarins DAILY ENERGIZER CREAM (Italian friends, you can click here) – I’m enjoying it very much so far.
BONUS STEP – MASK. I love the ritual of putting a mask on and relaxing. Depending on how my skin is feeling at the moment, I tend to do masks twice per week. Sometimes I go for a very nutrient one, bust most of the times I use the holy-grail Lush’s MASK OF MAGNAMINTY (Mascherita Piperita in Italy). I prefer the self-preserving formula, as it has a higher honey content. The ingredients inside are made to exfoliate and purify the skin, yet leaving it very pampered and nourished. It is one of the best face masks I’ve tried – I’ve gone through four repurchases at least!
